Job Summary
Assist in maintaining a clean physical, social and psychological environment that is conducive to the best interest and welfare of residents.
Accountabilities
- General

- Attend in-service training, educational classes, and meetings as required.
- Read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos.

- Communicate with residents in a respectful manner.

- Provide effective and courteous service to all residents, guests and co-workers.
- Resident Care
- Attend to the personal care needs of residents in a timely manner.
- Regularly review, follow, and adhere to residents’ service plans as it pertains to housekeeping.
- Report changes in resident status, health or otherwise to supervisor.
- Demonstrate knowledge of infection control and universal precautions.
- Other Duties/Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness of resident’s room including daily cleaning, deep cleaning as required, and discharge cleaning.
- Perform day-to-day housekeeping functions as assigned.
- Clean/polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, room heating/cooling units, etc., in elder rooms, recreational areas, etc., daily as instructed.
- Clean, wash, sanitize, and/or polish bathroom fixtures. Ensure that water marks are removed from fixtures.
- Clean windows/mirrors in elder rooms, recreational areas, bathrooms, and entrance/exit ways.
- Clean floors, to include sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, disinfecting, etc. ( NOTE : Ensure that appropriate caution/safety signs are properly set up prior to performing such duties.)
- Clean carpets, to include vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting.
- Clean walls and ceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting, deodorizing, etc.
- Discard waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacle with plastic liner.
- Clean vacant rooms as assigned.
- Follow proper techniques when mixing chemicals, disinfectants, and solutions used for cleaning. Refer to manufacturer’s instructions when necessary.
- Ensure that an adequate supply of housekeeping supplies to perform daily tasks is maintained in utility/janitorial closets. Keep supervisor informed of supply needs.
- Report burned out light bulbs, exit lights, overhead lights, fluorescent lights, room call lights, etc., to your supervisor as soon as practical.
- Clean work/supply carts, equipment, etc., as necessary or directed.
- Physical Demands/Working Conditions
- Able to sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, stoop, walk, and move frequently during working hours.
- Able to lift 40 lbs. floor to waist, lift 10 lbs. waist to shoulder, lift and carry 40 lbs., and push/pull 40 lbs.
- Able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
- Qualifications and Educational Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- CPR certification which must remain current during employment.
- First aid certification from a nationally recognized organization.
- Minimum of one year experience in a senior care or healthcare setting preferred.
